Mission

The purpose of the Edenwood Neighborhood Association is to promote and protect the interests and welfare of the residents of Edenwood and to encourage activities that will enhance property values and promote community.

Company Overview

The ENA is managed and governed by a voluntary Board of Directors consisting of officers and chairpersons of standing committees. All board members are elected at the biannual meetings. The ENA board meets every other month and additionally as needed. Two general membership meetings are held annually in spring and fall. General membership meetings are announced in the Edenwood newsletter, on this website, and on the community bulletin board.

EDENWOOD HISTORY

Edenwood is built on a tract of land that once was known as the Taylor Plantation. The Taylor home was located at the intersection of Evergreen Lane and South Eden Drive. Midland Development Company purchased this tract of land and developed it in the late 1950’s and 1960’s.

The first houses built in Edenwood were on Pecan Lane and Evergreen Lane at South Eden Drive in 1959. The families of Carl Woodle, Olin Gaston, and Bill Hawley were the first residents of Edenwood. Pear Street, now known as Julius Felder Street, was the only access road into the development in 1959-60. The developers extended North Eden Drive out to Highway 321 in 1962 and erected a large brick sign at the entrance to Edenwood on North Eden Drive and Highway 321. (Years later this sign was moved back off Highway 321 to its present location near the 90 degree curve on North Eden Drive.)

The Edenwood Garden Club, dissolved in 2017, was organized at the home of Betty McLellen at 206 Shady Lane in 1962. Claude A. Taylor School was built in 1964, and the Edenwood Swim Club was built in 1964. There are over 450 homes in the development.

ENA HISTORY

In 1987, Linda Pollard, a 28-year resident of Edenwood, became very concerned about what appeared to be the inevitable fate of older subdivisions. Determined that her much-loved community continue to be known as an attractive and popular community, she began to discuss with neighbors and friends the possibility of forming a neighborhood association. She immediately learned that her concerns were shared by many.

Mrs. Pollard polled the neighborhood and called a meeting of those who had indicated an interest. The initial meeting was held at the Cayce United Methodist Church on Valentine’s Day in 1988. Ms. Ceil Averson and Mr. Weston Stephens from Shadblow Neighborhood Association and Mr. Jack Pratt from the Quail Hollow Neighborhood Association presented organizational procedures which the association followed.

Bill Whitaker, Linda Pollard, Mary Ann Reynolds, and Lorene Able were elected to form a temporary Board of Directors, establish by-laws, and to name an ad-hoc committee to nominate a slate of officers for the newly formed association.

By the first annual meeting on April 28, 1988, the membership had approved by-laws, and elected a Board of Directors headed by Iris Ball, President; Linda Pollard, Vice President; Mary Ann Reynolds, Secretary; and Gus Nagy, Treasurer.
